This was the first of what I hope will be many articles about fantasy for you, but right now it’s just a quick look at an article I wrote for the Fantasy section of the New York Times a few years ago. The article was on a man named H.G. Wells, a man who lived a long time ago before the invention of radio. This article is about how he died, and how he was resurrected as a ghost in the modern world.
The story of Wells is not new. He is the best known person in the world to anyone born before his death in the year 1910. Not that he is dead, of course. He just doesn’t remember. He doesn’t even know who you are. He just remembers that you are dead. So we had to write this article, and we wanted to do it in a way that made the story easy to understand without being too technical.
So, yes, the story of Wells is not entirely new. It is however different. We decided that we could not follow the events in 1909 as it would only get in the way to really tell the story of Wells. We decided instead to go back in time, and we did, but as the story of Wells is not about a person, we wanted to give more context to how Wells was killed.
Well, he was not killed by a cat. When John Wells was put in his coffin, he was strapped to a table and his body was slowly dissected by a team of doctors. We chose to write about the actual killing, and we can be proud to have done so. Instead of just saying that John Wells was tortured, we instead told the story of how he was killed. The story is not about him being tortured, it is about how he was killed.
We wrote the story of John Wells’ death with a bit of a twist. Instead of him being tied up and dissected we instead decided to tell the story of how he died. To start with, Wells’ death didn’t happen in a vacuum. It happened in a hospital, where his body was kept for a long time. We also told the story of how John Wells’ death was discovered, so we can be proud of having done so.
Wells death was not a random killing. Its not just that he got the same treatment as everyone else that died. He was not killed in a fire, he died from a heart attack, he died from lack of oxygen, he died from being tortured, etc. All of the above happened to others before he was killed. But because he wasnt tortured, he died from the same things as everyone else. That’s the thing about death. It isnt random.
